Tablet or mobile device NOT RECOMMENDED
Desktop or laptop RECOMMENDED
Prepare Your Technology
Your professional learning experience may use the Facing History learning management system, Canvas. We recommend keeping the Canvas platform open in order to access important session materials and supporting resources. Your welcome communications will give you specific information for accessing your materials and/or enrolling in Canvas.
Prepare Your Technology
If your professional learning experience has live sessions, you will be asked to join through an application called Zoom. More detailed information for installing and setting up Zoom will be shared in your specific welcome communications. We recommend you install the most up-to-date version of Zoom and set aside some time before your first live session to test your Zoom settings.
We appreciate the opportunity to connect by seeing each other on camera. We also understand that we all need to take care of ourselves and may need to occasionally turn off our cameras. We do not require cameras to be on.
Prepare Yourself
Consider what you need to deeply engage as a member of a learning community.
Whether in-person or virtual, a learning community should be a place to:
- Exchange ideas
- Listen respectfully
- Give and get constructive feedback
Prepare Yourself
In this experience, we will sometimes be engaging with emotionally and intellectually challenging content. It is important that each community member feels they have the space to participate fully in all of the online learning sessions and to take care of themselves. Reach out to your facilitator if you have concerns.
Support
Please reach out to us at support@facinghistory.org with any questions. We are thrilled that you have chosen to learn with and from us and we look forward to seeing you in our online learning community.
Journal
Journaling is an essential component of a Facing History learning experience and journaling activities will be embedded throughout your professional learning offering. An electronic journal is available for those offerings that utilize Canvas, however you are free to use an alternate form of journaling including pen and paper.
Comfortable Work Space
Put yourself in an environment where you can give your best self and concentrate on learning and participation. This could be an office desk or it might be the couch in your living room.Make sure it is a quiet space with limited distractions suitable for both speaking and listening.
Refreshments
While longer events will have scheduled breaks throughout the day, depending on the timing and length of your learning experience, you may want to have drinks and food available nearby.
Headphones
Headphones may be necessary for the best learning experience. Consider whether you will need headphones and test them ahead of time.
